Pet Portraits in Dry Point Etching

A one-day print workshop taught by Jennifer O’Keefe

Saturday, April 27, 2024, 9:30am-12:30pm

Drypoint Etching on Recycled Plastic with non-toxic Akua Ink

Artwork by Jennifer O’Keefe

Using clear plastic plates, we will be making small 3" x 3" etchings traced from photographs sent in ahead of time/or picked from images provided at the workshop. All materials, inks and special paper will be supplied for a $10 materials fee. If you want to use a picture of your pet or of a photo you've taken of a flower or bird, email it to Jennifer at okeefe.jen@gmail.com ahead of time to have it flipped and altered in photoshop to the correct size and orientation before the workshop. Fur and feathers are particularly suited for etchings, but make sure it's a simple image. (Remember, it will be shrunk to 3" x 3")

We will be using the Takach press at WAG to print the etchings, however there will be a demonstration on how to print at home without a press. Jennifer will also talk about hand wiping and using monoprinting techniques to enhance/color the etchings. The workshop will be limited to 10 people. (Please bring material fee of $10 to class.) This is a great opportunity for adults and teens, ages 14+. Fee: $38.

MAKING YOUR PHONE CAMERA YOUR FAVORITE VACATION COMPANION

Tuesdays, 1-3 pm; April 30, May 7, 14, 21

Taught by Greg Stone

Photos by Greg Stone.

Photographers have long been asked, "What's the best camera?" and their answer has always been the same - "The one you have with you!"

Today's phone cameras are a real game changer, for they are the camera you always have with you and they are incredibly versatile. These sessions will start with some photography basics so crucial to making good pictures, but then move into the dozens of special ways to get the most out of your phone's camera whether your vacation takes you to Horseneck Beach or Timbuktu.

We'll explore its incredible light sensitivity for taking pictures of the night sky in the country or the night lights of a vibrant city and how to capture the surprise motion of a bee in a flower, or of a youngster getting their first hit on the baseball field. There are so many special features that many camera owners simply don't realize the incredible power they have in their pockets, nor the ability of these small cameras to take pictures you'll be proud to blow up and hang on your wall.

Specific lessons will be focused on the iPhone and demonstrations done with it, but many of the same things can be done with Android phones and sometimes done better. You, of course, will need a phone to benefit from this program, but no particular photography skills.

$40 for 4 sessions. 20% discount for WAG members. (Limited to 15 participants) Please register below.
